How to Build a Solar Panel Fan in a Good Way

You need to understand that a solar panel is seen as a green power source that can convert energy from the sun into electricity. The presence of solar-powered fan is really good for the environment and its presence is able to save more money while keeping you cool during the summer months. In this case, it is an important for you to build a solar panel fan so you can be sure that it will be great for your needs. For more information, just check this article out.

Soldering Tool

The first step you need to consider is to heat the soldering iron and keep the solder nearby. In this case, you need to do the right preparation that will support you to build this system so you can take benefits from it. Just be sure to do this process rightly.

Soldering Tool

The next step you have to know is to solder the positive (red) wire coming from the fan to the positive wire coming from the capacitor. If you would like to do this, you just need to touch the two wires together while holding the soldering iron against them both. If you see the wires become hot, you need to touch the solder to the heated wires and utilize the soldering iron to shape it in place.

For another good step, it is an important for you to solder the positive wire from the solar panel to the positive wire on the capacitor also. In this case, you need to consider the use of additional solder while needed. If the panel has no protruding wires, the back is usually positive, and the front negative.

Also, it is better for you to solder the negative wire (black) from the fan to the negative wire on the capacitor in the same way described previously. In fact, this kind of process will help you to build the right system for your needs so you can take benefits from it. Just be sure that you do this process rightly so you can take benefits from it.

And then, you will be advised to solder the negative wire from the solar panel to the negative wire on the capacitor. You will be asked to use more solder while needed since the solder will support you to do your jobs very well. Also, it is advised to check the connections on the capacitor to make you sure about the security.

How PEX Fittings Are Used in PEX Plumbing Systems

PEX fittings are used to connect the flexible polyethylene pipes used in PEX water plumbing systems. Flexible PEX tubes are a low cost, problem free alternative to metal or plastic systems. You can avoid the problems of corrosion and scaling when you use a PEX system. Altogether PEX water plumbing systems are a vast improvement over older systems that use copper or rigid plastic pipes.

Soldering Tool

The flexible pipes are not made brittle by low temperatures. Polyethylene tubes are cheaper than metal pipes and are easier to install because they do not use as many fittings as metal or rigid plastic systems. Since soldering is not used with PEX systems there are no nasty fumes or the risks associated with using a torch.

Soldering Tool

PEX tubing is wrapped in spools. Because spools weigh less than cut metal or plastic pipes, they are easier to store and cost less to ship. Tubing can be unrolled from the spools with no need for coupling fittings. Installation is much quicker and cheaper when it does not involve the running of pipe.

Connecting the tubes is done by inserting a fitting into or over the tube and then crimping a ring placed over the tube or fitting. There are a few different connection methods. Some use copper crimp rings and others use crimp rings made of plastic. One system uses a stainless steel clamp. Most fittings are brass although some are made of other metals or plastic. Because PEX tubing is flexible and can be turned to a 90 degree angle elbow joints are not needed.

Tubes are cut using a special PEX pipe cutter and come in different sizes to accommodate 1/2" or 3/4" tubes. A main crimping tool is used to pinch the rings over the pipe or fitting. There is a de-crimping tool that is used to remove crimped rings. There are some specialized tools used for the stainless steel clamps and proprietary connection methods.

The most common material used to make fittings is brass. However, you can find fittings made from other metals and even plastic. Fittings have ridges that when crimped make a high-pressure seal.

Using the system of PEX fittings along with PEX tubing has definite advantages over metal and plastic piping. It is less expensive than rigid plastic and copper piping. It can be installed right from the spools. It requires less fittings. It last longer because it is not subject to corrosion.

The Evolution of Watch Repair Tools and Technologies

Watches have evolved throughout the years, starting from the intricate craftsmanship of wind-up pocket watches that are still in existence today, and then slowly evolving to the more accurate quartz watches using the power of crystal oscillators to keep the watch in time. Eventually, watches evolved into the purely electronic models that make use of more precise digital technology.

Soldering Tool

In line with this evolution of watch technologies is the parallel evolution of watch repair tools and their corresponding technologies. These tools can be used to make delicate repairs to intricate components, lubricate certain parts and then clean components. Whether the timepiece on hand is an antique work of excellent craftsmanship or any of the various types and styles of modern watches, there are available repair tools that can keep these watches in good working condition.

Soldering Tool

Watch Repair Tools for Different Watch Technologies

Expensive timepieces are great feats of craftsmanship that were brought to realization by skilled watchmakers who spent long hours of focus to detail and perfection to create the perfect timepiece. It's important that the correct watch repair tools be used to handle the maintenance, restoration or repair work for these watches.

Such is the case with antique pocket watches that have been in existence for more than a lifetime. These watches have intricate components and parts including gears, hands and small precision screws. Such micro parts require the use of specialized tools like precision screwdrivers, pin removers and installers, demagnetizers, anti-magnet tweezers, precision pliers and magnification tools.

Some of the metallic mechanical parts may have damaged metal pieces, links or bands that may need repair or total replacement. In this regard, watch repairers would need the use of shears, soldering tools or even precision torches to weld or attach pieces in place while carefully avoiding other parts that could be damaged. Such tools are similar to the precision tools used by craftsmen in making intricate jewelry.

Cleaning and lubrication devices are other watch repair tools that are essential when dealing with precision mechanical parts from these types of watches. An ultrasonic bath using non-corrosive solvents can be used to remove embedded dirt and grime of the surfaces of these metallic parts. After these components are cleaned and installed back to their original settings, synthetic lubrication oil should be applied particularly to moving parts to keep them running smoothly in the times to come.

Digital watches on the other hand have less of the mechanical components and more of the newer technology: electronics and other innovative parts that are used in modern watches. Instead of dealing with gears and hands, digital watch repairers would deal with wire crimps, micro motors, display components and surface mounted electronic devices. Watch repair tools specifically designed for electronic parts can be used to repair or replace components and other parts in these types of timepieces.

Technology has gone a long way and this is prevalent even to watches that have evolved from the purely mechanical timepieces of old to the new and modern electro-mechanical devices and state-of-the-art technology that modern watches now feature. This diversity calls for a similar variety in the type of precision watch repair tools that can repair, maintain or restore these watches back to mint condition.

The Way to Repair Your Stained Glass Window Pane

If you have some experienced in stained glass handi-crafts repairing your old or damaged stained glass window pane is a project you may think about doing yourself. This article assumes you have at least some experienced in this craft. If your window is very valuable, if you do not have any practiced in stained glass window pane making or if you lack trust in yourself this is a task you may wish to leave to the experts. Otherwise, the process is very much like creating a new stained glass window pane and even somewhat easier in the sense that you don't have to do much, if any, glass cutting.

Soldering Tool

Problem #1: The leaded stained glass window cames are about seventy years old (or older) and have grown brittle causing bulging or breaking.

Soldering Tool

This typically begins to happen in a stained glass window over seventy years old. Lead does not rot or rust, but it does lose its elasticity and become brittle over the course of time. If left unattended it might result in the stained glass pieces to fall out or break as well.

The Answer:

Re-leading the window pane. This is of a problem, but very worthwhile to regenerate your stained glass window to its original beauty and integrity. The following steps have to be taken:

1. Take a photograph of the window pane and measure lead cames to aid with reconstructing it later.

2. Take the board out of the window pane frame and remove board framing.

3. Next, you will require to take the whole panel apart using the soldering iron to loosen solder and gently pry the old cames from the glass pieces.

4. Dispose of old lead in an safe for the environment way, you should probably take it to a metal recycling facility.

5. Next each piece of glass should be thoroughly cleaned and dried. Lay the pieces in place so as not to grow confused later.

6. Reassemble panel using with new lead cames in the same width as the original.

7. Broken stained glass pieces should be traced and matched as closely as feasible to a new piece of glass cut with the pattern you create. Another option if you will be able to have as much broken pieces and either cannot match the stained glass closely sufficient or don't need to put new pieces in, is to use thin lead cames to hold the broken pieces together. This option will likely make it obvious that the window pane has been repaired, so use with care.

8. New cement should be applied to both sides

9. New reinforcement bars should now be attached.

10. The stained glass plank is now ready to be re-framed and re-hung.

This action should be done when the window is nearing seventy years of age. Following the steps above should lead to a complete restoration of your stained glass window and it should be as structurally good as a new one.

Problem #2: One stained glass board in a window pane under 70-years-old is broken.

The Answer:

This will depend on the location of the broken piece. If it is near the fringes, you can be in a position to get away with carefully breaking the damaged piece out of the frame and using the soldering iron to loosen the lead cames and then re-soldering the new piece in place as in #7 above. If the broken piece is in a challenging location or if there are several broken pieces, you may like to re-lead the complete window pane following the above directions. If there is a small crack, you could think about using a glass repair kit from the automotive shop. These are employed to set small chips and crevices in windshields and if the harm is slight, may well be a fitting way to repair the crack and stop further damage.

There are many other small repairs that you can do yourself such as painting areas that have flaked off, but these will ought to be removed and re-kilned and you may wish to confer with an expert for help with that. Restoring your glass window pane may be a painstaking process, but it is worthwhile to preserve its original beauty and make it last for future generations.

Metals - Metallurgy of Welding - Down and Dirty Style

Metallurgy is the study of metal. Welding Metallurgy is the study of how welding affects the microstructure of metal.

Soldering Tool

Did you know that there are metallurgists who devote their lives to only studying carbon steels? So what about all the other metals like Stainless steel, nickel alloys, aluminum, magnesium, titanium, cobalt, and copper alloys?

Soldering Tool

Metallurgy is such a deep and mysterious subject that it takes a lifetime to completely understand carbon steels much less all the rest.

So if is such a deep subject, what  chance does a welder have in understanding enough about metallurgy in order to be a better welder.

There is good news. And its not that I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO.

The good news is that you dont have to understand everything about metallurgy. You just need to understand some basic principles.

The absolute fundamental thing to understand is that heat from welding affects metal.  That sounds really simple but it is profound. Why? Because heat affects different metals in different ways.

When you heat a piece of metal to red hot, and then quench it by dunking it in a bucket of cold water, what do you think happens? If you answer "it hardens" you are only partially right. Only a few metals harden by heating and quick cooling. Most other metals react totally differently.

Carbon and low alloy Steels like 4130, tool steel, cast iron, and some 400 series stainless steels harden by quick cooling from a red hot temperature.

But most other stainless steels, nickel alloys, aluminum, magnesium, titanium, cobalt, and copper alloys will actually soften and lose properties by heating up red hot and quick cooling.

So what does this mean to you the welder?

If you are doing a weld on 4130 chromoly, you need to know not to speed cool the weld or it will harden.

If you are welding 6061 t6 aluminum, you need to know that the weld area will soften if it gets too hot for too long, and strength will be lost and never regained unless a full heat treatment can be done.

Welding 301 full hard stainless steel is easy to do, but heat from welding recrystallizes the work hardened microstructure and the strength and hardness goes right out the window.

Welding 304 stainless can cause carbon and chromium to bind up and form chromium carbides if the weld area stays too hot for too long.

So do you get the picture. Heat affects different metals in different ways.

Welding Metallurgy studies exactly how the heat from welding affects metal and if you the welder take the time to study metallurgy, the knowledge gained will make you better.

Guitar Parts and Kits Help You Build Your Own Custom Guitar

Many guitarists would like to try their hand at building their own guitar but don't know where to start.  They don't have the knowledge or skills or the tools to build a guitar from scratch.  Fortunately there are several solutions to their problem buying guitar parts and assembling them yourself,or a guitar kit.  First decide whether you want an electric guitar or bass, or an acoustic guitar.  The process for building an electric guitar and bass is the same.  Once you decide what you want you can purchase the goods and get to work.

Soldering Tool

Guitar Parts or Guitar Kits for an Electric Guitar

Soldering Tool

If you want an electric guitar there are several things you can do.  The first is to buy all your parts from various sources and put them together yourself, then finish with a spray can.  You can even find parts already finished that you simply put together.  There are some problems with assembling already finished parts.  If the parts don't fit, you'll have to sand or otherwise work on those parts thereby destroying or marring the finish you just purchased.  It's probably better to buy unfinished parts, unless you can find factory authorized parts that are guaranteed replacements.  That way you'll know that all parts from the same brand will fit together.  If you do buy parts from separate sources you may have to tweak them.  You shouldn't need a full workshop full of tools, sandpaper, files, and maybe a chisel should be all you need for shaping the neck or neck pocket, which is where you'll be likely to run into problems.  You might need a reamer if your tuners don't fit the drilled holes in the neck you have.  A reamer is better than a drill, because it self centers, and it isn't as expensive.  Other than that you'll need a soldering iron for the electronics and assorted screwdrivers for attaching the bridge, tuners, pickguard, strap buttons, etc.

You can also buy an electric guitar kit.  The kit will come with everything you need except tools, You'll usually need screwdrivers, sandpaper, a hobby knife, and soldering iron.  Some kits come with electronics that snap together so you won't need the soldering iron.  Be prepared to do some tweaking to get parts to fit though.  The tuners in some of the kits aren't always the best, that should be about the only thing you'd want to replace.  I've gotten Saga guitar kits where the bridge was actually higher quality than the stock parts.  Look around the net for reviews, a lot of people have had great success with Saga Guitar kits, they're cheap, easy to assemble and need minimal tools. Most people will want to finish them with spray cans, this is the cheapest option for a one-off guitar.

Acoustic Guitar Kits

If you're wanting to build an acoustic guitar then you'll probably want an acoustic guitar kit.  These come in various stages of construction, some are almost like building a guitar from scratch, some are almost like the "bolt together" electric guitar kits.  Unless you're really serious, get a guitar with pre-bend sides.  If you don't you'll need a specialized tool called a bending  pipe, which is expensive to buy.  It's simple to build, but you may have problems sourcing the parts, and actually bending the sides is a challenge too.  You'll probably need a few more tools than you would building an electric guitar from parts.  You will probably need a small plane, like a block plane and possibly a saw, and router or purfling cutter a specialized tool for cutting channels for the binding.  It's much trickier building an acoustic than an electric guitar, and you'll need at least a some woodworking skills.  Finishing the acoustic guitar is basically identical to the electric.

If you're serious about building a guitar there are numerous options open to you depending on your skill level and tool chest.  You can search the internet for reviews, prices, and other peoples experiences on building a guitar before you decide if it's right for you.
